“Adventuring Human Rights Education”, Albania 2007
During 24 February – 2 March 2007 had place in Durres, Albania the training course Adventuring Human Rights Education, Together Romania being one of the participant organizations.
The youngsters coming from 8 different countries (Italy, Albania, Greece, Latvia, Romania, Macedonia, Turkey and Serbia), having different political, social and religious backgrounds were trained during the 10 days by professional trainers who used Compass methodology and other informal methods offering them a wider angle of perception of the concept and its approaches of Human Rights Education.
The training had as a goal the training of the youth leaders in order to gain and to develop knowledge in HRE and further more, to apply it so as to combat racism, xenophobia, discrimination, gender-based forms of violence and to protect religious and ethnic minorities, this representing a step in building an equal society. The debates held during the project aimed disputed topics from human rights field, being stimulated by communication based methods, socially focused methods and self-directing methods.
Starting with a short description of human rights history, the youngsters gradual skimmed trough the methodology using brainstorming, team working and especially practice and experimentation, concrete events simulation of racism, discrimination for a better understanding of the concepts and decisive factors.
Following all the training stages, the youth leaders was given the opportunity, more, the responsibility of acting as trainers for one day; for this they have organized workshops using theatre in this way all the participants having the chance to be active involved.
“Adventuring Human Rights Education” offered the Romanian participants more than a cultural exchange experience, has offered the opportunity of approaching new methods and practice so as to act within the organization in order to promote HR education at national level and not only.
