“Own your Culture”, Snina, Slovakia

.

“Between 1 and 8 April I was part of the project ‘Own your culture’ that took place in Snina, Slovakia and brought together 36 young people from 6 different countries from Europe: Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Spain, Turkey and Lithuania.

The main purpose of this youth exchange was to promote the folklore and traditions of the participating countries and to make youth aware of the importance of the culture because the national culture is what offers us an unique identity as a nation.

Every day of the project was full of creative activities that the organizers prepared for us. We had ice breaking games, presentations, outdoor activities, including an orientation game, visits to museums and surrounding areas, three workshops where we learned more about craft and traditions and last but not least, each country had to teach the others a traditional dance.

The cultural nights were the perfect way to end a memorable day, full of incredible activities. Each country presented a part of their traditions, music, dances and specific food, and in this way we all meet new cultures and learned in a non-formal way about them.

For me, this project was a real success and an amazing experience because it changed my mindset and contribute to my personal development, helping me to improve my English, my communication skills and overall enrich my cultural knowledge. I met wonderful people, with interesting stories and life experiences and I learned something from every one of them, directly or indirectly. We had a lot of fun together, we worked in teams, and made great memories that will last forever.

I want to thank the organizers and all the participants for a very fulfilling experience, and especially I want to thank Mr. director Alexandru Iorga, an experienced, understanding and funny coordinator, for offering me the chance to participate at this youth exchange and for  making my first project a perfect one.

‘Own your culture’ was a truly successful project within which several friendships were linked and I really hope we will all meet someday in other projects.”
