Shake Mi City 2.0

“From 19th to 28th of September 2016, we participated in the Shake Mi City 2.0 Youth Exchange in Monza, Italy, alongside participants from six other countries : Italy, Croatia, Belgium, Greece, Denmark and Portugal. The main aim of the project was to raise awareness to cultural identity, help the participants understand and accept the differences between countries and offer them opportunities to discover and exploit their talents. We had a wide range of activities, such as cooking, reflection groups,working groups, warm-ups, cultural evenings, different-themed workshops (dancing, video-making, serigraphy , singing, song-writing and sports), photography contest, team building and a lot of games meant to teach us more about the European Union, in a fun way. We also had to organize a final event in a big youth center in Milan, so we worked together to set up an entertaining evening for local youngsters and show them what we did during the exchange. We had dancing classes, sports-related activities, warm-ups and at the end we all watched the final movie, made at the video-making workshop, and listened to a little concert, organized at the music workshop.

Every activity we did helped us improve our social skills and also language skills because we had to work with different people and try to understand each other’s way of thinking and perceiving things. Besides all of the fun games, we also had to help with keeping the place clean. We were divided in working groups and each group had to do something every day, like: cleaning after a meal, cleaning the common spaces, prepare breakfast, etc. At the end, we were a little sad about leaving, but overall happy because we had the opportunity to participate in this project, that brought together so many different people and taught us that we can all work together as a team and also have fun together, despite the differences between race, nation, religion, culture and way of thinking.”
