NO Bullying!, youth exchange Valea Doftanei 2017

.

One of the two EU 2020 headline targets for education is to reduce early school leaving to a 10 % average across the EU. Bullying is directly recognised as affecting early school leaving in the Annex to the Council Recommendation on Early School Leaving (2011): ‘At the level of the school or training institution strategies against early school leaving are embedded in an overall school development policy. They aim at creating a positive learning environment, reinforcing pedagogical quality and innovation, enhancing teaching staff competences to deal with social and cultural diversity, and developing anti-violence and anti-bullying approaches’.

The participants of this project were youngsters, coming from different backgrounds, approximately between age 16 – 25, from 5 EU countries, so in total 20 youngsters and 5 leaders. The project consisted in only one activity, a youth exchange, that took place in Traisteni village from 22nd to 30th October 2017 and the countries involved were Romania, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania and Hungary.

The main objectives of our project were to learn to recognize bullying, violence and harassment, get better the understanding and its impact in community; to develop anti¬bullying policies recommendations, action plans and strategies for protection and empowerment of school communities’ actors in responding to violent and anti¬social behaviors and to improve bullying competences of participants. Another interesting aspect of the project was the direct contribution of locals (authorities, high-school, NGOs) in a project with “whole approach” involving youngsters, pupils, teachers and community. A special focus was on the understanding of the values of the “third” position that offers potential strategies to interrupt bullying as well as to prevent it.
