Education for a Job, youth exchange Erasmus+, Campina 2022
The current youth unemployment situation, albeit with a small increase, is worrying: 3.4 million young people (under 25) were unemployed in the EU in September 2019, the number of young unemployed decrease by 475 000 in the EU, compared to September 2018; in September 2019, the youth unemployment rate was 6.7% in the EU, compared with 7.3% in September 2018; the differences in youth unemployment rates in the EU countries are high: from 6.6% in Germany to almost 15.2% in Greece, 11.4% in Spain and 8.4% in Italy (Source: Eurostat).
The project was a youth exchange, involving 30 participants from 6 European communities facing an increased unemployment rate; they were coordinated in their activities by 6 leaders. Mobility took place in Campina, Romania during 7 days of activities, using non-formal education. This is due to the concentration on schools of the horizontal approach that prevents active participation, and also because skilled staff have a low level of involvement in supporting non-formal learning methods. This is the main reason why we developed this project, which could help and support the process of integration into the labour market of young people from the 6 participating communities. For this project, we involved partners from Poland, Estonia, Italy, Spain and Slovakia with whom we have collaborated on other projects and we have the certainty that we can count on their involvement and support.
Scope:
The project aimed to prepare 30 young people for the labour market, i.e. equipping young people with tools to enable them to make a well-grounded (responsible) choice in terms of preparation and orientation to a particular career, as well as their ability with certain essential competences to enter the labour market. The choice of this theme was not a coincidence, given the European and national context regarding the employability of young people. Our project comes as a solution regarding a better understanding and respond to the needs of their communities by using non formal learning methods for young people to help increase their employability.
Moreover, the project responded to the needs of partner organizations in all 6 communities (including the one we activate) and the need to build a partnership that better meets the specific needs and objectives of all organizations. We identified this problem in a joint survey conducted by all 6 partners in the communities in which we operate. The main general conclusion of this survey was that there is a need for activities to support young people in order to increase their employability and professional orientation. The youth unemployment rate in the participating countries in 2022 was as follows: Italy 25.3%, Romania 21%, Slovakia 20.4%, Spain 29.4%, Poland 10.8% and Estonia 17.8%; the European average for 2022 is 14% (Eurostat 2022).
