I am Young & I am Marginal, Valea Doftanei 2014

“Variations can be integrated no matter how marginal they are.” Our project goal can be summarized in this sentence. All project activities were performed for youth integration that has been excluded from society because of their marginality. In this context, regardless of where they live, what colour they are or which social environment they live or what disability they have, we believe that we are all equal and we can live together in peace. See the TRAIL of the project and some PHOTOS.

Marginality concept, which is perceived as, outlines of a society; has been stemmed from the idea of “the other is not from us”. People, who are not following the regular patterns of any society, unfortunately label as “others” and sadly excluded from the society and cannot protect their human rights. With many prejudices toward marginal people, societies deconstruct their living connections. Other than excluding people, we must realize their differences as richness that makes our lives joyful. We are the parts of a very big puzzle; one missing piece means that we are not full in this life.

Our major project goal was to help youth perceive “the others – so called marginalized people” as a part of our society. The participants started from national level and move to European level regarding with integrating all marginalized people into where they actually be. We focused on individuals marginalism first and then extend to certain excluded groups like; Roman community, Immigrants, Sexual minorities and disabled people. These excluded groups have serious problems in their lives because of their different life styles or certain distinct characteristics. Actually, when we start to understand each other, we will see that our essence is the same – we are all different, but we are all equal.

Each promoter involved in this project come form a community in which the social exclusion, prejudices and stereotypes are present. Even if not in a big percent but still exists so it is better to fight against this from now than latter. Latter will be more difficult and the youngsters from now will be parents and it is probably that their children to act the same. So is important to start educating the youngsters from now and when they will be parents their kids will be educated well. It is a snowball effect with long-term impact.

The project was financed by European Union under ERASMUS + Programm.
